In the winter of 1812-13, little circle of young children were accustomed to be amused by short tales, made at the moment, for their amusement and instruction. - The beneficial effects which these little stories produced in the conduct of the young listeners, first gave the idea of writing the following Tale; thus hoping to impress a more permanent advantage. - In this hope an anxious Mother dedicates this little work to her six beloved Children.
