In adapting the present volume for the use of Elementary Schools in Canada, the editor has ventured not only to alter considerably the original text, but also to introduce new matter, which might fit the book the better for use by Canadian pupils. The more closely he has studied the text of the author, the more has he been impressed by the wise selection of material, that has made the little volume so successful a text-book in elementary schools in Great Britain. He ventures to hope that a similar success awaits it in Canada.
