They consist chiefly of collections of memoranda of the sayings and actions of the emperors and princes, and of their ministers, and of proclamations made by them on the eve of battle.<br><br>From about the eighth century B.C. China possesses written histories in an unbroken series, giving every detail not only of the events in the political and social life of the nation but also of the individual lives of persons of note.
