A few passages have been inserted which were previously omitted, and a few by way of explanation. Considerable additions have been made to the Notes, and the Appendix has been enlarged. It is hoped that this little work may thus become more useful as a book of reference. But the primary object was to present a fairly continuous narrative of a very extensive subject.<br><br>It is not generally recognised how many of our well-known hymns appear in their Latin forms in the ancient Service Books of the Church of England.
