One warm August night in 1956 in the small town of Eagle Springs, Colorado, 17-year old Buck Malone witnesses a young, beautiful Native American woman being pushed around by his best friends father at the annual square dance in the town park. When Buck sees the same woman the next night nursing a cup of coffee and a battered face at the soda fountain in the town drugstore, he wonders if he should go in and help her.
