Opis
Excerpt from Lady-Bird, Vol. 3 of 3: A Tale
"Joy for the freed one, she might not stay
When the crown had fallen from her life away;
She might not linger, a weary thing,
A dove with no home for its broken wing,
Thrown on the harshness of alien skies
That know not its own land's melodies,
From the long heart withering early gone;
Her task is done."
Mrs. Hemans.
"There stands a spectre in your hall;
The guilt of blood is at your door;
You changed a wholesome heart to gall;
You held your course without remorse."
Tennyson.
A day came on which Mrs. Lifford felt herself still weaker than usual. She sent for Mr. Erving, the priest of Stonehouseleigh, and he stayed with her some time. Afterwards she asked to see her husband.
