My purpose in this book is to encourage young black males to strive for excellence by improving their life skills to combat a mindset of mediocrity. I equate life skills necessary to live a successful life to the athletic skills necessary to play basketball at a high level. I use statistics that highlight the mindset of mediocrity and failure currently displayed by the Black male in America.
There has been numerous self-help books published over the past 20 years however I am not aware of any that has addressed this particular audience or that has any impact. I recognize that of all the "groups", the young Black male probably reads the most infrequently. However, I believe if the message is well received, urban school districts, alternative schools, detention centers, community leaders, municipalities, parents and others could and I believe would encourage young black males to read this book to change their life's journey.
Our nation needs everyone to strive for excellence and settle for nothing less.
