Excerpt from The Owen Cipher: A Paper Read Before the Witenagemote on Friday Evening, December 1, 1893<br><br>Some years ago, Ignatius Donnelly was about to exploit his so-called Shakespearian cipher, I devoted some time to an examination of the plays, with a view to understanding on what grounds it could be claimed such a cipher existed. I then found that my learned and distinguished friend, Dr. O. W. Owen, had been similarly impelled, and had in fact become convinced that a cipher-writing existed in the Shakespearian dramas.
