Excerpt from Things Chinese: Being Notes on Various Subjects Connected With China<br><br>The author regrets that different circumstances have unfortunately delayed the appearance of the Third Edition of this book for a very considerable length of time, thus causing it, when the Second Edition was exhausted, to be out of print.<br><br>A glance at the present volume will show that considerable additions have been made to the subject matter: the new articles are Ascending on High, Agriculture, Arms, Banks and Bank Notes, Betrothal, Birth (Customs connected with,) Buffalo, Camphor, Cosmetics, Cotton, Dogs, Doctors, Ginger, Ginseng, Kites, Larks and other Songsters, Plague, Tenure of Land, and Tigers - nineteen in all.
