Alexander Kadison was a devout agnostic although he wrote many essays and articles on the topic of religion during his lifetime. Neither do I crave salvation in a life beyond the grave: Far better strive mankind on earth to save through word and deed." This creed sets the tone, not just for Kadison's approach to religion, but for the entire text of the book. The line: "Blind faith is barred from my philosophy" alone establishes that Kadison has made it his mission to investigate religion instead of blindly following it.
